Eucalyptus plantation in Uganda
Pillar One

The Green Pillar

Large-scale eucalyptus plantation forestry — the renewable biomass foundation of the entire GBG system.

Why Eucalyptus

Fast-Growing. Resilient. Profitable.

Eucalyptus is Uganda's most productive commercial timber species. In the Ugandan climate it reaches harvestable size in just 4–7 years on a coppice rotation — meaning the same root system produces multiple harvests without replanting, dramatically reducing the cost and effort for farmers.

Unlike natural forest, eucalyptus plantations are established on already-degraded land, restoring productivity to soils depleted by overgrazing and subsistence farming. GBG plants exclusively on such degraded land, ensuring no displacement of natural ecosystems.

Working With Ugandan Farmers

GBG partners directly with smallholder farming households, providing everything they need to establish and manage productive eucalyptus plantations.

Farmer tending to tree seedlings

Seedling Supply

GBG nurseries produce and deliver certified eucalyptus seedlings to contracted farmers, with planting guidance and agronomic support throughout establishment.

Training & Support

Field officers train farmers in proper spacing, pruning, fire management, and coppice rotation techniques to maximise biomass yield and soil health on their plots.

Harvested eucalyptus biomass

Guaranteed Offtake

GBG purchases all harvested biomass at a pre-agreed price, eliminating market risk for farmers and ensuring a reliable income stream from every harvest cycle.
